Reading and writing is my passion. I'm fascinated with wordsmithing! I've had over twenty years experience writing lessons, curriculum, powerpoint presentations, staffing related documents, forms, and much more. With extensive experience in editing, proofreading, and coaching writers to improve their craft, I've recently been honored to receive the Top Rated badge on the Upwork platform, putting me in the top 10% of freelancers on this site! I work with multiple publishers across several reading genres editing and proofreading their many projects across several authors and book projects, and enjoy a productively great relationship with each and every one. With a Bachelor's Degree in English from UC Berkeley and a Master's Degree in Leadership and Global Issues (socio-economics/cultural), I am well trained and experienced to handle the context, editing, and proofreading in many genres. Choose me to help you along in your project, and you'll get someone highly skilled in wordsmithing who also has a passion to help my clients succeed and thrive in their projects!

Please read completely as many common questions are answered here. Born and raised in Ohio, I am a native English speaker and have a BA in English from Kent State University. For five years, I taught language, reading, and honors creative writing to junior and senior high students, writing my own drama and creative writing curriculum. Over the course of my career, I have released nearly a dozen YA novels, short story collections, a collection of plays, a cookbook, and a book on writing. I have worked as a freelance writer / ghostwriter in both non-fiction and fiction capacities, writing everything from captions and copy to short stories and novels in myriad genres. While my forte is fiction, I do accept non-fiction work. I've created characters and outlines, as well as writing from a provided outline, and can work with as much or as little as the client wishes. All work is 100% original, meaning that unless otherwise instructed by a client, I do not outsource work to other freelancers and I do not use generative AI programs. None of my writing, including any provided samples, were assisted or created by AI. Much of my work as a ghostwriter has made Amazon's top 100 ebook lists at least once, and I have had more than one make USA Weekend's Bestseller list. I have been freelancing since 2002 and have been writing full-time since December 2012. As I sign NDAs with all of my clients and while some do give permission for me to use parts of that work as writing samples, I cannot provide full chapters of any work I have done for clients. I can only provide chapters from my own work, which is all YA. I do not write samples over 500 words on request without payment. I require all communication to be through a messaging platform, which means no phone or Zoom interviews, though I am happy to set a time for an Upwork message chat interview. My current Upwork hourly rate is $40/hr and my current Upwork per word rate is $0.06/word. This is based on my experience and what my current clients are paying. Outlining, story development, and revision options vary for per word / fixed rate work and are not provided without additional compensation. I work on a first-come, first-serve basis, and that comes by contract, not discussion. I can advise what my schedule looks like at any given time, but until a contract is signed and a project accepted, that may change. I do not accept any work that promotes / portrays any of the following in a positive manner: homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, racism, hatred, or blasphemy of any religion.

Let's be honest. Most manuscripts don't fail because the writer lacks talent. They fail because nobody told the writer the truth. Your friend said it was amazing. Your writing group said "maybe tighten chapter three." Your mom cried at the ending, but she also cried at a paper towel commercial last Tuesday. None of that gets you published. None of that gets you reviews. None of that gets readers recommending your book at 1am to someone who should be sleeping. That's where I come in. I read fiction the way your future readers will hungry, impatient, and completely willing to put your book down if you lose me. The difference is I'll tell you exactly where you lost me, exactly why, and exactly what to do about it. Your readers will just leave a two-star review and move on with their lives. I specialize in science fiction, fantasy, and thriller, genres where pacing isn't a suggestion, world-building has to earn its word count, and readers will forgive you almost anything except being boring. What I'll do to your manuscript: ✅ Beta Reading — I read it as a reader first. No editorial filter, no politeness tax. You get my real reaction, where I was hooked, where I checked my phone, where I genuinely didn't see that twist coming, and where I absolutely did. That reaction is worth more than a hundred "it's great" responses. ✅ Developmental Editing — Structure, pacing, narrative arc, character consistency. If your story is a house, developmental editing checks whether the foundation is solid before we talk about the curtains. Most manuscripts need this more than they need anything else and most authors skip it entirely. Don't be most authors. ✅ Line Editing — This is where your prose stops surviving and starts singing. Sentence rhythm, word choice, dialogue that actually sounds human, flow that pulls readers forward without them noticing. Your voice stays completely intact. Everything fighting against it doesn't. ✅ Proofreading — The last thing standing between your manuscript and public embarrassment. Typos, punctuation, consistency errors, the word "definitely" spelled four different ways across 80,000 words. I find all of it. Every last one. You're exactly who I work with if: ✅ You've finished your manuscript and something still feels wrong but you can't name it ✅ Your beta readers liked it but couldn't tell you why the middle dragged ✅ You're self-publishing and your name is going on this thing permanently ✅ You want someone who will treat your story seriously enough to be completely honest about it What you actually get: ✅ Editorial letter with specific, prioritized revision guidance, not vague gestures at "clarity" ✅ Inline comments in Google Docs Suggesting Mode so you see every decision explained ✅ Multiple solutions per problem, because "fix this" without options isn't feedback, it's homework ✅ A reader's real reaction documented throughout, not manufactured after the fact ✅ Your voice protected at every single stage Genres: Science Fiction · Fantasy · Thriller · Mystery · Horror · Young Adult · Historical Fiction · Romance · Literary Fiction · Memoir Short stories to 120,000+ word novels. No cookie-cutter packages, scope and turnaround discussed per project so you're never paying for what you don't need. Most editors will tell you your manuscript has potential. I'll tell you whether it actually does, and if it does, I'll help you prove it on every page. If you're serious about publishing something worth reading, click Invite to Job or send a direct message. Tell me your genre, word count, and where the manuscript feels stuck. I'll take it from there.

Creative Consulting & Brand Development: I have worked as a freelance creative for over a decade. My work spans brand architecture, commercial production (branded content, commercials, and more), and multi-platform copywriting across industries. In short, I've produced every form of content you can think of! Creative Writing: I have authored books, articles, feature films, and animated series. Voice-overs and Voice Acting: As a trained actor, I have recently started doing voice-overs and voice acting. I do work in Swedish and English (I grew up in Sweden, but went to an English school and then moved overseas and have lived overseas since). I have access to a recording studio. Key Skills Writing: - Copywriting (all brand and marketing collateral, including direct response copy) - Blogs & Articles - Fiction & Non-Fiction Books for Children, Teens, and Adults (writing, developmental editing, and line editing) - Feature Films & Commercials Creative Direction, Planning & Design: - Creative Direction for Branding and Marketing - Design (social media posts, newsletters, brochures, presentations, etc.) - Directing & Producing Plays & Commercials I have worked with tools such as: - Canva (landing pages, brochures, presentations, social posts & videos) - WordPress - Figma - Surfer SEO & Clearscope - ClickUp - Monday - Slack - Asana - Trello - Klaviyo - Keynote (incl. animation) - Google Docs, Sheets & Presentations - Pages & Word - Numbers & Excel - Hootsuite - ChatGPT & Gemini - Sudowrite - Grammarly - Celtx As for my background, I trained as an actor/director at KADA/ASAD and a producer at UCLA Extension, but I have also worked as an executive PA to the CEO of an equity company and as a sales manager for an online art gallery before I became a freelancer. Being a freelancer has allowed me to combine my love of storytelling and entertainment with my love of innovative businesses. I just wrapped a one-year contract as the head of brand and content for a trading platform, where I built the brand from scratch and did all the copy for the website, emails, and social posts, plus shot commercials and branded content. I also helped direct two designers, one of whom is now taking over the design department. Throughout my freelance career, I've focused on writing, but with a heavy dose of digital marketing and branding. My passion is helping people communicate their unique story/brand, as well as playing around with innovative marketing and branding ideas. DRC might drive sales, but brand drives loyalty. I further have experience with long-form content, having written blogs and articles, as well as non-fiction and fiction books for clients. I've also done a fair amount of developmental editing. This side of my work allows me to truly indulge in my love of good stories! Communication is what I do best—from communicating brands to communicating stories that deserve to be heard, whether because they’re funny, outrageous, or will simply put a smile on your face. I have many long-term clients and enjoy building client relationships that last and evolve over the years. I have listed myself as an agency here simply so that I am able to collaborate with other freelancers as and when needed, though unless you need other skills than mine, you work with me and me alone.
